The supreme court in New Delhi India has asked the union government to withdraw the exemption from insurance for the over 1.5million lakh buses owned by state road transport corporations. (SRTCS) the Supreme Court judgment came on the heels of heavy losses incurred by victims and those injured in accidents involving these buses owned by the states who waited endlessly for years to get compensation from the state run transport corporations. This was one of the major issues before a bench of justice in the last six months who have been engaged in stream lining the process for speedy disbursal of compensation to victims or the injured by the motor accident claims tribunal.
All government, both states and Centre-owned are not under the purism of vehicle insurance. The justice had to go through major changes in the insurance law to bring the state buses under motor insurance.
