The Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) received a boost recently as governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State signed into law, a bill establishing the Contributory Pension Scheme for employees in the State Civil Service.
Attracted by the multiple benefits of the CPS, all the states of the federation have adopted the scheme except Adamawa.
Out of 35 states that have adopted the scheme, seven states are in full compliance with Lagos state taking the lead.
12 states are in partial compliance, while the remaining 16 states are at various levels of enacting their own CPS laws.
Although the bill was passed by the State House of Assembly in 2015, it has just received the governor’s accent.
After signing the bill into law, Bello said that the law would provide a better welfare package for civil servants in the state civil service after retirement.
