The second wave of the covid-19 continues to rage in india forcing insurers to compensate only 45-80% of hospital bills related to medical treatment of covid-19. Policy holders are caught in the middle between hospitals and health insurers over medicals bills, as well as personal protection equipment (PPE) which are generally excluded from insurance coverage. Hospitals in india like most places, have increased their prices since the pandemic started last year because of the use of PPEs which hospitals says account for about 25% of the total cost of treatment.
Lawmakers are also pushing for a shorter turn around time for claims settlement of insurance claims from the upto six months to the shortest possible time as the nation battles to win the war against the pandemic.
Some insurance companies have excelled in service delivery by providing interim benefits while claims were being processed.
